BCR MTB Challenge a runaway success

The inaugural Blythedale Coastal Resort Mountain Bike Challenge which took place on Valentine’s Day was a resounding success. More than 430 riders took part and were challenged to a diverse terrain which saw them riding through dense coastal forest, cane fields and a section of beach. Some of KwaZulu-Natal’s top riders were present as well as a team from the South African Rugby Legends Association. Western Province Golf Day

The eLan Rugby Legends hosted the second SA Rugby Legends Association Western Province Golf Day at the Rondebosch Golf Club on Friday 5 February, which turned out to be an enormous success.

This year the players were invited to SWING A CLUB FOR ROB to raise funds for the newly established Legends Celebrate Life Cancer Trust that was founded by former Springbok flank Rob Louw who had been diagnosed with an aggressive form of melanoma cancer and remarkably survived round one of his battle against the disease after been flown to the United States.

Cape Town Tens

The eLan SA Rugby Legends made it two in row after wining the Castle Cape Town Tens tournament hosted by the Hamilton Sea Point Rugby Club on 6 and 7 February. The Legends who won the inaugural tournament last year had the privilege of playing the first game of rugby on the newly completed Soccer World Cup Cape Town Stadium in Green Point when they played and comprehensively beat the International Invitation XV 31-10.

eLan SA Rugby Legends Golf Day - Rondebosch

The Rob Louw Celebrate Life Campaign will be launched at the second annual SA Rugby Legends Association Golf Day at the Rondebosch Golf Club on Friday 5 February, which once again will be hosted by the eLan SA Rugby Legends.

Rob who was diagnosed with an aggressive form of melanoma skin cancer was flown to the USA after former Bok scrumhalf Dr. Divan Serfontein had made the initial contact with specialists out there. Thanks to top South African businessman Johann Rupert who is a huge Springbok supporter, Rob was flown to the States in his private jet.

Cape Town Tens

After a hugely successful Inaugural Castle Cape Town Tens held at the oldest rugby club in South Africa, the Hamilton Sea Point Rugby Club, last year the eLan SA Rugby Legends will return to Cape Town to participate in this years event next week end, which will undoubtedly become the tournament that officially starts the rugby season each year.

Blythedale Coastal Resort MTB Challenge

The eLAN SA Rugby Legends will be participating in the inaugural Blythedale Coastal Resort MTB Mountain Bike Challenge on Sunday 14 February, and will promoting the Rob Louw Celebrate Life campaign as his fight against cancer begins after the Springbok legend survived round one.

Situated North of Ballito on the KZN North Coast this new event adds another dimension to the cycling calendar giving riders and their family members the unique opportunity of experiencing the wonderful lifestyle that Blythedale could possibly offer them.

Ruben Kruger

It was with great sadness that the eLan South African Rugby Legends received the sad news of the passing of one the great icons of Springbok Rugby, Ruben Kruger last night.

Born Ruben Jacobus Kruger in Vrede on 30th March 1970 he played in 36 test matches between 1993 and 1999 and was forced to retire from the game he so loved in 2000 after it was discovered he was suffering from malignant brain tumours.

Ruben Kruger Golf Day - Pebble Rock

The Ruben Kruger Golf Day which was held at Pebble Rock Golf Club on 4 December and put together by former Blue Bulls and Sharks player Werner Cronje in association with the SA Rugby Legends Association was a great success.

eLan Rugby Legends' Zambian Safari

The eLan SA Rugby Legends recent safari to Zambia turned out to be a huge success in more ways than one.

The legends arrived in Ndola Thursday 26 November where they were welcomed by Sergio Georgiou of the internationally acclaimed Michelangelo Lodge and were later hosted with a cocktail party that evening with many of the locals being invited to meet them. The next day they participated in a sponsored golf day. With 28 four balls participating it turned out to be yet another successful day with the main sponsors PG Glass really coming to the party.

eLan Rugby Legends off to a good start in Bermuda

The eLan Rugby Legends began their 2009 Rugby World Classic trophy hunt when they crushed their Canadian counterparts 40 - 5, in Bermuda on Monday night. The star studded lineup included Robbie Fleck, Deon Kayser, Braam van Straaten, Pieter Muller and Trevor Halstead. The win puts the Springbok's through to the semi-finals where they face New Zealand on Thursday night, 20h30 Bermuda time.

eLan Rugby Legends take a swing for Cancer

The eLan Rugby Legends participated in the Richmark and Kirsty Watts golf days which effectively raised R250 000 for the Kirsty Watts foundation. Kirsty, a cancer survivor has started this Trust to help children who are suffering from the disease.

Kirsty, the daughter of well known Carte Blanche presenter and eLan Brand Ambassador Derek Watts, was an absolute revelation whose enthusiasm and love for life has prompted SARLA president Gavin Varejes to help her in her efforts to make a difference.
