Premiership Week 24

The highlight of week 24, was the much awaited visit of Manchester United to Chelsea, the media had made much about whether the two captains would shake hands before the game, as the Chelsea captain John Terry is facing criminal charges for allegedly racially abusing  United's captain Rio Ferdinand's brother Anton, but all the attention was not necessary, as Terry failed to recover from injury to play in the game.

More importantly the game hit the headlines for the right reasons, Chelsea took a 3-0 lead thanks to an own goal from Johnny Evans and then goals from Juan Mata and David Luiz, United looked dead and buried, but two goals from the penalty spot from Wayne Rooney brought United to life and then an equaliser from Javier Hernandes in the 84th minute, sealed an incredible comeback and the six goal thriller ended in a point apiece .

Manchester City moved ahead of United with a 3-0 home victory over Fulham, who showed very little resistance on a snowy afternoon in Manchester

Third placed Tottenham had a tough prospect away at Anfield, where Liverpool have been in a rich vein of form, Tottenham were without manager Harry Redknapp, who was in court facing tax evasion charges and four first team regulars, Van Der Vaart, Kabul, Aaron Lennon and Jermaine Defoe, but a gutsy defensive performance saw Spurs come away with a 0-0 draw, which is not a scoreline that you generally see when Tottenham are playing.

Arsenal were at home to struggling Blackburn and after being beaten at home to lowly Wigan earlier in the season, the Gunners were in no mood for a repeat and an inspired performance including a hat trick from Robin Van Arsenal (sorry Persie) led them to a 7-1 victory.

Click here for the highlights, watch out for some lovely passing from Arsenal, especially the pass from Alex Song for Van Persie's second goal.

Bottom of the table Wigan, picked up a point at home to Everton, whilst fellow strugglers Wolves got all three points in the bottom of the table clash at QPR, which lifted them out of the bottom three.

I am afraid for all Wigan fans that despite a draw in week 24, they now are five points adrift of safety, and if they continue to earn a point every one and a half games as they have done all season, they will only gain another eight points in the remaining twelve games, which will give them a total of 24 points at the end of the season, which will see them relegated.

Have a good week
