It is with great delight that we announce the final resolution of the Land Claim at Blythedale Coastal Resort!

In a landmark land claim resolution spanning more than two years, Blythedale Coastal Resort has been given the green light by the Regional Land Claims Commission.

The resolution was publicly announced at a “Day of Celebration” which was hosted by eLan at Blythedale Coastal Resort on the 1st April. Speakers on the day included the Deputy President Baleka Mbete, National Housing Minister Lindiwe Sisulu, MEC for Local Government Mike Mabuyakhulu and the Mayor of iLembe Welcome Mdabe.

The event saw over 1000 people in attendance and was a massive celebration for all parties.

Below are extracts from my speech on the day:

10 years ago we identified the KZN North Coast as a potential property boom area. We started with the extremely successful Simbithi Eco-Estate near Ballito and just five years later, we cast our eyes further north to this beautiful tract of land which will one day be known as Blythedale Coastal Resort.

Taking into consideration what we learnt from developing Simbithi Eco-Estate, we decided that a social and affordable housing component would be necessary to complete Blythedale Coastal Resort. It is in our mandate to uplift the surrounding communities in which we operate and we could not think of a better way to accomplish this. And so Blythedale Hills was born.

In addition to the social housing component, the development will effectively plough a further R45million per annum in rates into the local economy and another R200 million into bulk services. This will further stimulate development in the area. 80 000 jobs will come available during the construction phase and once complete, the development will offer 10 000 permanent jobs with the land clainants being first in line for these opportunities.

We are extremely grateful that the land claim has been resolved and that the development is now in the hands of the eLan Group to manage through to completion.With this responsibility we assure you that we will make this a
 
  development we can all be very proud of.  

Exciting news indeed! Now that we have the green light, resources will be thrown at the infrastructure and civils work that is required to fast track the project roll out.

There are no longer any suspensive conditions on the resort so transfer of the development site is anticipated for the end of April this year.

Thanks to all the purchasers who have hung on through the resolution period. There is no doubt that you will be rewarded with a large capital gain on your investment, as well as having the opportunity to enjoy the benefits of an estate that has it all!

The resolution also provides a wonderful opportunity for new investors to capitalise on an investment that offers unsurpassed facilities as well as long transfer periods.

The landmark land claim resolution at Blythedale Coastal Resort will now provide the catalyst for immense economic growth and social upliftment on the North Coast of Kwazulu Natal and it a major victory for all the parties involved including the claimants, stakeholders, land owners, government and present and future purchasers.

Speaking of the importance of the partnership between communities, Government and the Private Sector, the Minister of Housing, Lindiwe Sisulu said the resort was a model of what is possible when all stakeholders work together to achieve one vision.

"Today we celebrate a great private sector, community and Government partnership, the eLan Group was among the first private developers to believe in the Government housing plan, Breaking New Ground Plan (BNG) which lays a foundation for inclusionary housing in which the poor can also enjoy social and economic amenities as the rich. We are happy that the resolution of the land claim has included the community and they are benefiting from economic opportunities during the implementation of the project and are also resident in the resort.”

Speakers at the event were asked to cast their handprints in clay to signify the co-operation between all stakeholders of the Resort.

  Ruiterslvlei Wine Estate


Wow, just a couple of weeks ago it was early mornings late evenings, tractors rumbling through the vineyards and farm staff working away in the heat of the day helping to bring in the harvest. This is now well and truly something of the past and we are very excited about the fruits of the 2009 harvest at Ruitersvlei.

Reflecting on the season gone by, I can say we had a very blessed harvest and definitely one of the best harvest seasons I have ever had the privilege of being a part of.

With the white wines now resting on the lease for another month or so and the red wines just about through their malolactic (secondary) fermentation and looking at some time maturing in the tanks, things are slowly but surely returning to normal yet a great deal of work still needs to be done before we can bring you the new and exciting 2009 range.
