| Foreword with Mark Taylor |
This month saw a round of breakfasts being hosted with key stakeholders in the province, including both Mayors of Ilembe and KwaDukuza, to share the vision of the eLan Foundation. A section 21, non profit organisation, this arm of the eLan Group will focus on harnessing the potential that exists out of our critical mass developments. By mobilizing the private sector to work with us, we aim to significantly improve the lives of the communities surrounding our developments. Two key areas that we are focusing on already include the Shakashead rural settlement adjacent to Simbithi and the communities on Blythedale Coastal Resort.
Furthermore, as title sponsors of the South African Rugby Legends, we are about to kick start a campaign that will involve 40 high schools in South Africa to work together in raising awareness and funding to plough back into the Legacy Parks Programme - an initiative which sees rural sports development at grassroots level.
The Group has diversified its portfolio to two new area's; the first is the initiation of a Commercial Industrial Division, and the second, is a focus on low, medium affordable housing on the North Coast. This is in response to a great demand that exists for this type of accommodation where in particular, the North Coast will see 100 000 new residents as a result of the opening of the King Shaka International Airport! For a District Municipality, the baseline for growth is around 2% to 3%, where we are seeing up to 15% growth in some areas. The unprecedented growth has seen 30 year municipal master plans squashed down to five years to accommodate activity!

R22 Million sold & R28 Million reserved at Blythedale Coastal Resort this month! |
|
There has been a definite renewed interest at BCR, predominantly from the local market of which R22 million worth of single residential sites were sold. In addition to this, developer interest of R28 700 000 has also been reserved. With Blythedale planted firmly in the middle of the Golden Corridor between Durban and Richards Bay, properties on the coast are being snapped up as investment opportunities as the construction of the airport draws to a close.

| Simbithi security |
|
With security concerns a significant factor for any family purchasing in a new area, Simbithi Eco-Estate is renowned for its uncompromising attitude when it comes to protecting its residents. With six gates manned 24 hours a day, and a perimeter fence of over 13km long, the control room at Simbithi is a state of the art 'eye' for the entire Estate. All gates are CCTV monitored and the perimeter electric fence is monitored by radio alarm identified into individual zones with an anti digging device rooted in specific areas. The fence is patrolled 24 hours a day by foot and vehicle patrols and residents are access controlled at each gate. Guards have photograph identification of each resident to further ensure the actual resident is accessing the Estate.
"Because we are an Eco Estate, we do not subscribe to fences and high security measures around individual homes which makes the security of the Estate as a whole, of utmost importance to us" Steve van Greunen, Estate Manager |

Ryan Kankowski and the Spirit of eLan on Top Billing |
Two weeks back one of eLan's Springbok Brand Ambassadors, Ryan Kankowski, was featured on SABC 3's Top Billing. This was all done on board the Spirit of eLan catamaran and provided a wonderful opportunity for Ryan to be interviewed within a luxurious and peaceful setting, with the Durban beachfront as a backdrop.
The Spirit of eLan is available over the festive season for corporate functions, Christmas parties and birthdays.
