%name% / %refnum% Issue 46: January 2010

Foreword With Mark Taylor

This festive season came as a well received reward for the eLan Property Group as both Simbithi Eco-Estate and Blythedale Coastal Resort experienced property sales exceeding those seen anywhere around the country.

The long awaited transfer of the land at Blythedale Coastal Resort has put buyers at ease. Added to this, the land is now interest free while we get funding in place - this is more security that the development is rock solid and here to stay! Not only have we gone the traditional route by approaching the banks for development finance, but we have also engaged with a Swiss-based investment firm which is now backing the development. Negotiations commenced in March last year and after two successful trips out to South Africa and two back to Zurich, we will be finalising financing, with anticipated funds in place within the next 30 to 60 days.

We thank you all for your support and for committing to your investments at Blythedale Coastal Resort. You will continue to see your land appreciating in value as beachfront property values rise. We have seen offers increase by 30 to 40% on some sites already!

A look into some other concepts, 'behind the scenes' we are expanding the Worx Zone offering to include a mixed-use half-hotel, half-office element. Units to both the hotel and offices will be sold on a sectional title basis with a guaranteed rental return for three years in the hotel section. Of course this will be launched exclusively to our Investor Club Members first. If you would like to register your interest and be included in the launch offer...

This month we made a dream come true for one gentleman who won a R1 000 000 piece of land on Blythedale, we opened our Ballito Office, hosted a Charity Golf Day, a Music Festival and sponsored 10 Beach Monitors at Blythedale Beach. We hope you enjoy this month's update from eLan.

Warmest Regards

A R1 000 000 smile for winning land at Blythedale Coastal Resort!

Life will never be the same for Brian Aberdeen of Sunningdale, Durban, after winning a R1million site at Blythedale Coastal Resort. Brian won the piece of land after entering the Blythedale Coastal Resort / Gateway Theatre of Shopping's Super Size Your Summer competition - all he did was buy a pair of running shoes for his 17 year old son. Out of 20 000 entrants, the draw was whittled down to just 15 excited contestants who went head to head in an elimination game facilitated by East Coast Radio jock, Peter G.

An enthusiastic Brian said, "The competition was absolutely fantastic and winning the site at Blythedale Coastal Resort is a dream come true." He never expected to win but now the title deed to a R1million site is his.

Brian has not only won a valuable property in one of the countries most sought after developments, but has also been given an opportunity to up his stakes in the property game. With services and infrastructure going ahead in the next few weeks, it will take another 12 to 18 months before he will take transfer of his land. By this stage the value of his property would have increased in value by about 30%. Brian will be neighbours with high profile personalities such as Derek Watts, John Smit and Ryk Neethling.

Somkhanda Game Reserve - Leopard Project

The NZHO Leopard Project began in July 2009 with the placing of cameras in Somkhanda Game Reserve at places where it was believed a leopard would visit. Once a leopard had been photographed, it could then be identified as a known animal. We believe that leopards will be a major attraction for visitors to Somkhanda in the future and our aim is to establish the concentration of these magnificent animals in the area. This information will also assist reserve management in ensuring effective wildlife management at the reserve going forward. An added bonus of the research will be the identification of rarer animals such as the Serval Cat.

Development Update

Our project management and conservation teams have been working on a design which incorporates 30 to 40 exclusive game lodges based within 12 000 hectares. This will be part of a protected Big 5 Game Park. Currently, we are in the process of rights approval.

Beach monitors keep it clean at Blythedale Beach

Blythedale Beach benefited hugely with the presence of additional beach monitors over the festive season. They were employed by Blythedale Coastal Resort, to assist the local municipality in monitoring the crowds during busy times and keeping the beaches clean. The 12 monitors were employed from the local Dube community, part owners of Blythedale Coastal Resort, one of South Africa's largest resort developments. iLembe Municipal Manager Mike Newton said, "Any additional assistance at our beaches is welcomed as it gives us more control over these areas. The beach monitor's generally help us to ensure holidaymaker's safety and that they receive the correct information regarding other tourist facilities in the area."

It was an opportunity for us to give back to the community firstly by helping the municipality and secondly by creating work opportunities for the local community. Due to the success of having the beach monitors at Blythedale Beach over the festive season, Blythedale Coastal Resort has pledged to keep some of them on indefinitely to make sure the beaches are always clean. KwaZulu Natal's beaches are a major asset and it is our responsibility to keep them clean and in pristine condition for ourselves and visitors.

  Golfing for Charity

If you would like to contribute towards Shakashead Feeding Scheme, kindly contact melanie@elan.co.za
KZN North Coast golfers braved the rain and arrived en masse at the annual Simbithi Shakashead Golf Day to take a swing for charity. Coordinated by the eLan Foundation the aim of the day was to raise funds for a feeding scheme based at a neighbouring rural township. Plans for the centre include moving the existing centre to better premises within the township and making it sustainable. Other charitable organisations will also have a presence at the new premises making it a one stop shop for community members in need of care and a hearty meal. The day was a great success raising in excess of R80 000 for the centre. We are grateful to all our sponsors and players for participating in the golf day.

From Top:Leon Pretorius, Gerhard Breedt and Sean Newton played in the Stedone Homes 4-ball, Trenley Tilbrook (eLan Property Group), Bradley Sparks (Betterbond), Ricky Jacobs and Francois Verster (Dfin Financial Services), Trenley Tilbrook (eLan Property Group), Gary Sheik, Peter Taylor and Ravi Naidoo (The Riverside Hotel). eLan Rugby Legends Adrian Garvey and Craig Jamieson were among the golfers at the Simbithi / Shakashead Golf Day.
