Mark Taylor was born in East London, South Africa on 31st March 1960. He matriculated at Kearsney College and
went on to complete a B. Comm. degree at the University of Natal in Pietermaritzburg. After completing a 5 year
stint at Nedbank’s Corporate Banking Division in Johannesburg, he decided to relocate back to Durban.
He joined a small property development Company however after a short while left to start his own company and Mark II
Projects was born.

In 1997, Mark started the eLan Group with a view to concentrating predominantly on the tourism and
lifestyle development market. After a number of successful projects completed in the next four years, the Company
initiated the 430 hectare Simbithi Eco-Estate in Ballito. This development comprises 2000 units, an
executive golf course as well as a commercial component including hotel, clubhouse, shops, offices and a pre-primary
school. In addition to Simbithi Eco-Estate, eLan is working on a number of other lifestyle estates including:
1. Blythedale Coastal Resort a 5000 unit development on the KZN North Coast.
2. Emfuleni Riverfront development on the Vaal River comprising 88 units.
3. New Forest Game and Fly Fishing Reserve and Avenol Country Farm and Fly Fishing Reserve, Midlands.
4. A development in Mozambique with 500 units.
5. Domaine Bonaventure in Mauritius has 564 units.
6. Somkhanda, a 16 500 ha game reserve in Zululand.
7. Ruitersvlei, an exclusive 8 unit wine farm in the Western Cape.
