EUROPEAN CHAMPIONSHIPS 2016 QUARTER FINALS

After an amazing run in the competition, Wales finally succumbed to the Portuguese ‘Bale 0 v Ronaldo 2’,

Ronaldo will have the bragging rights when the pair return to Real Madrid !!

I was concerned for the Welsh, as Aaron Ramsey and Ben Davies, two of their key players were suspended for this game and it left a lot for Bale to do, the Welsh team as a whole was far greater than some of the individual parts, but they played their hearts out and made the Welsh a very proud nation during the finals.

Neither side did themselves justice, but Portugal just had that little bit more than the Welsh and two goals in quick succession, a great header from ‘Who Else but’ Christian Ronaldo and an instinctive goal from Nani settled the matter.

On this showing though, I do not think that Portugal will be walking away with the trophy !!!

In the other Semi Final, the hosts France were up against the World Champions Germany and it turned out to be an excellent game of football, where either side could have been the victors, in the early stages Germany dominated possession, but the French stood firm and defended gallantly, then just before half time, Schweinsteiger was penalised for handball and Antoine Griezmann stepped up to take the penalty, he calmly stepped up and put the French in front.
Germany came out fighting again, but some good saves from Lloris kept them at bay and then with 18 minutes to play Griezmann put the hosts two up when he scored from close range after a mistake by the World’s number one keeper Nauer.

The Germans continued to huff and puff, hit the crossbar and had a couple of chances, but the French house did not blow down, to the delight of the host nation.

So there we have it the final of the European Championships is between France and Portugal on Sunday evening.

I am going to predict France to win and Spurs keeper Hugo Lloris to be lifting the European trophy.

Have a good week.

Gary
