Leicester City’s incredible achievement in winning the Premier League title brings with it a message for every person in the world, we all have our dreams and ambitions and all in differing areas, some in sport, business, academics, politics, music, theatre, film etc, but there are times when we do not believe that we can reach our aims.
Every parent who goes to watch their children play in Football, Soccer, Netball, Rugby, Cricket matches, knows very well that in the leagues that their youngsters play in, there will be ‘THE TEAM’ the ones that have all the expensive kit, the ones who always get the best players and the ones that usually win everything, I have it with my children, my daughter plays in a Netball league and every time they come to play a certain team, she says ‘we have no chance today we are playing – – – – – ‘.
What Leicester have done and what they have reminded us all, is that with hard work, desire, effort, team spirit, individual strengths, believing in each other and believing in themselves the impossible becomes I’m possible.
I have a poem that has been on my fridge since I was eight years old (it has been there for a mere 46 years) and Leicester’s triumph and believing in yourself and achieving your dreams, rings so true from the words of this poem.
The poem is called – If you think you can you can.
IF YOU THINK YOU CAN YOU CAN
If you think you are beaten, you are
If you think you dare not, you don’t
If you like to win but think that you can’t
It’s almost certain you won’t
If you think you will lose, you’ve lost
For out of this world we find
Success begins with a fellows will
It’s all in the state of the mind
If you think you’re outclassed you are
You have got to think high, to rise
You have got to be sure of yourself
Before you can ever win a prize
Life’s battles, do not always go
To the strongest or fastest man
But sooner or later, the one who wins
Is the one who thinks he can.
THANK YOU LEICESTER FOR REMINDING US ALL THAT WE CAN LIVE OUT OUR DREAMS
