In a first for the continent, Durban played host to over 84 dazzling Mrs Universe contents who travelled in from all over the world, bringing with them their dreams of wearing the ultimate crown.
The glamorous contestants’ full week started on Saturday evening with a warm Durban welcome at a cocktail party held around the pool at the AHA Riverside Hotel in Durban North. Their first engagement in a full week’s activities, the event was proudly sponsored by the eLan Property Group and Blythedale Coastal Estate.
The crowning pageant will be at the Inkosi Albert Luthuli International Convention Centre on 2 September 2017.
Mrs Universe sets itself apart from other similar pageants by being an activist-themed event. In keeping with the theme, Empowering Women. Creating Change, the pageant recognises married woman between 25 and 45 who are doing amazing work to uplift their local communities.
Contestants will be joining the #OneVoice march from King Dinizulu Park to Durban’s City Hall on 30 August 2017 in a show of support for the fight against the global scourge of abuse against women and children.
As the host country’s representative, Trisha Poonan, is excited about showcasing her home city and South Africa to the global participants. Mother of two, Ruan, 6, and Ziva, 5, Trisha is a fitness and image consultant. She says that she’s excited to show what South Africa has to offer – “beauty with depth”.
